The Fantasticast Episode 134 (300)

Undoing The Incursions

Hello, and welcome to episode 134 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we’re taking a look at Fantastic Four #118, as Johnny Storm tries to undo Crystal’s  brainwashing, Diablo plays with his chemicals, and Ben Grimm takes a journey to Earth-A, where everyone looks like Reed, except… Reed? We’re also taking a look at Sub-Mariner #45. I say we… does anyone have anything they want to confess?

We’re also taking a look at Dan Slott’s greatest achievement, and… other fun things, but I forgot to take notes, so I’m just desperately filling space here. So, that Game of Thrones, huh? Boy, words are hard to think of…

The Fantasticast Episode 133 (300)

Expository Pyjamas

Hello, and welcome to episode 133 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

Much like Breaking Bad, this episode of the Fantasticast is all about Crystal (I apologise for that terrible joke). Fantastic Four #117 starts the search for Johnny Storm’s true love, with Archie Goodwin and John Buscema weaving a globe-trotting, Thing-scaring tale. We’re also looking at Sub-Mariner #44, where an evil hippie-burning Johnny Storm helps Namor against Llyra and Tiger-Shark. Finally, we’ve a brief peek at a few panels of Avengers #94, a true turning point in the Kree-Skrull War.

As well as all this goodness, we present The Adventures of the Cul-De-Sac Crew, the greatest unintended consequence of Secret Wars, and Bagpuss in cosplay. As for what happens when Rita Repulsa meets the Sub-Mariner… you won’t believe what happens next!

How Many Seamen On The Love Boat?

Hello, and welcome to episode 108 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, Steve and Andy welcome Emily Middleton of the Relatively Geeky Podcast Network to the show. As the host of Uncovering The Bronze Age, Emily is ideally positioned to help us transition from the 1960s to the 1970s. And, as the daughter of previous guest-host Alan Middleton, she even has our Skype contacts already on her computer!

We’re covering a veritable stack of comics this episode. Fantastic Four #94 features the first appearance of Agatha Harkness, the return of the Frightful Four, the naming of the younger Richards, and a very scary cat. We’re also taking a look at Incredible Hulk #123, where Reed is responsible for a big change for Bruce Banner, and Namor, The Sub-Mariner #21, where Ben Grimm records a voicemail message.

As well as all of this, we’re also taking a very brief look at our experiences at the recent Thought Bubble convention. Spoiler: It was awesome!

The Jackanape Sanity Test

Hello, and welcome to episode 101 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

It’s the end of an era, as the final Lee/Kirby Doctor Doom story comes to a close, not with a bang, but with possibly the most off-beat ending this year. Yes, it’s the turn of Fantastic Four #87 to come under the gaze of The Fantasticast. We’re also taking a brief, two-panel look at Namor, The Sub-Mariner #14 as Ben Grimm tries to avoid getting involved in the plans of Egghead, something highly recommended by anyone forced to deal with that particular villain over the years.

Along the way, we spy on Doctor Doom’s sleepover, listen to some mid-combat shouting matches, discuss Latverian small talk, discover Rob Liefeld’s Bullpen Bulletin, and find a scene that actually passes the Bechdel test. In the 1960s, Stan Lee-penned Marvel comic. Yeah, it surprised us too…

Fansplaining Earth X

Join hosts Stephen Lacey and Andrew Leyland as they venture down into the Sub-Atomica, the Microverse, the worlds within worlds. Fantastic Four #76 sees Reed, Ben and Johnny on the trail of the Silver Surfer, seeking his aid to prevent Galactus from consuming the planet Earth. Featuring a not-very-surprising guest-villain, and more pregnancy-induced hysteria than you can shake a stick at.

We also take a brief look at the moral conundrums of Reed Richards in Incredible Hulk #105. On top of this, we have your favourite non-Fantastic Four Fantastic Four stories, we pose a new listener question of the month, and there’s a double-dose of British number-one singles.
